Eric López Maya’s talk focuses on his research about how mindfulness can be an effective tool for depression and especially it’s effects between Spanish-speakers and non-Spanish-speakers. Eric López Maya, Ph. D is the Founder and Director of the Mexican Institute of Mindfulness, a leading Institution in Mexico and Latin American with close to 20 years of experience. He is also a Certified Teacher-Trainer in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction trained at the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Medical School, and at Brown University Mindfulness Center. Eric has led and collaborated in mindfulness research projects in many countries. He was also appointed as a Postdoctoral scholar at UCLA, conducting research on the effects of mindfulness in Latinos. Dr. López has extensive experience teaching mindfulness in companies and organizations, is passionate about working in multicultural settings, and developed mindfulness programs at a Fortune 500 company. Si practicas constantemente se te facilitará cada vez más acceder al estado de conciencia profunda. Nuestra mente es capaz de percibir, es decir, de enfocar su atención en dos sensaciones a la vez. Para esta meditación mindfulness en donde preservaremos nuestra concentración, además de contemplar nuestra respiración, también dirigiremos nuestra mirada interna al área de nuestra frente, el tercer ojo, o como lo llama la neurociencia, la corteza prefrontal de nuestro cerebro. Es en este punto en el que se dice que abrimos la mirada hacia nuestra alma, porque en esta área del cuerpo (en el órgano del cerebro) no tenemos la capacidad de sentir sensaciones físicas; pero fijar nuestra observación allí, permite que surjan la mayor cantidad de pensamientos y memorias guardadas. Para nuestra meditación mindfulness significa enfrentarnos cara a cara con el reto de volver a enfocar nuestra mente al momento presente constantemente, en lugar de dejarnos llevar por el diálogo interno. Davidson is Wiliam James and Vilas professor of psychology and psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as well as founder and director of the Center for Healthy Minds.
